The Receiving Manager in a logistics company supervises and guarantees the smooth running of goods-in operations, in line with the deadlines, quality and productivity targets set by the Logistics Manager. On a day-to-day basis, he/she is responsible for welcoming drivers and coordinating goods deliveries to the warehouse.
The day-to-day tasks of the reception manager
The Receiving Manager is responsible for motivating his team of operators, with a daily brief to keep them up to date on the progress of operations and to distribute tasks throughout the day. He/she organizes the working week according to scheduled deliveries, goods to be put into stock and available resources.
It is also the reception manager who ensures that all procedures are followed, whether relating to service quality or safety. He can make adjustments if necessary.
The reception manager's constant aim is to maximize his team's efficiency while maintaining a high level of service quality, not forgetting attention to the well-being of operators.

In collaboration with the logistics manager, he optimizes processes and helps develop new projects. He or she is also called upon to put forward ideas to improve service quality or the daily lives of operators.
The receiving manager also takes part in the activity with the operators: unloading merchandise, checking products and putting stocking items.
Last but not least, the reception manager has a unifying role to play with his or her team. He or she must be able to respond to requests, resolve potential conflicts and maintain cohesion between members of the department.
The skills required to be a good reception manager
Receptionists need a range of skills to enable them to carry out their work in the best possible conditions. These include :
- Team management
- the organization
- setting up procedures
- checking that safety rules and instructions are properly applied
- use of business software, TP and handling equipment (motorized and non-motorized)
What training and qualifications are required to become a reception manager?
To become a logistics receiving manager, we recommend you have a degree in logistics, transport or international trade , as well as specific training in goods receiving.
It's also possible to train directly with a company to gain skills and professional experience.
Management training is also required for this position, as it involves managing a team on a daily basis.
Finally, the CACES (Certificat d'Aptitude à la Conduite En Sécurité) can be an asset, being very useful in the logistics sector.
The CSR aspect of the reception manager's job

Like all the company's employees, the receiving manager has a role to play in deploying the CSR approach on the production side. At Logisseo, for example, the reception manager has set up a system for recovering cushioning in good condition from supplier packages, making it available to the preparation team and thus limiting the need to purchase new cushioning.
The reception manager may be called upon to propose new actions and support the CSR manager and guide his or her team in implementing them in the department.
Last but not least, he or she is also responsible for ensuring compliance with the various processes and charters in place within the company, whether they relate to waste reduction or customer requests (a subject that falls within the scope of CSR, of course!).

The example of Valentin, Logisseo's reception manager

He has never had any specific training in logistics, learning everything on the job in the companies he has worked for.

You also need to be rigorous, reliable and dynamic in order to successfully carry out the tasks entrusted to you.

What Valentin likes most about his job is its versatility. Although there's a certain routine, he likes the fact that his daily routine is very varied.
